Recently, Anji Rural Commercial Bank was the first local corporate bank in zhejiang that signed the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), and officially joined the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).
To implement the United Nations Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the UNEP FI took the lead to develop the PRB which was officially published during the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2019. The principles provide the framework for a sustainable banking system. Specifically, they encourage banks to set targets for the most essential and substantial areas and to integrate sustainability into the scope of strategy, portfolio, transactions, and all other lines of business.
Anji Rural Commercial Bank, a banking and financial institute with the largest scale of deposits and loans, the most branches and widest service, has always pursued sustainable development. Actually, it was the first local corporate bank to have set up the green financial business department in the nation, to have formulated the plan for building "carbon neutral" banks, and to have built a pilot branch for carbon neutrality. It aimed to integrate innovation of green finance with the basis of the inclusive finance to develop the green and low-carbon of the local economy.
After joining the UNEP FI, in accordance with achieving the goal of "emission peak and carbon neutrality", Anji Rural Commercial Bank will learn more about the advanced principles in terms of communication and practice; it will better align its business with the theme of sustainable development. Therefore, it will soon become the leading bank of green and inclusive finance and continuously increase its positive impact and contribution to society.
